If you have followed my blog over the years, you are aware that I have changed the color scheme in my foyer multiple times! I have painted it, stenciled it, painted the stairs and changed my mind after each time.
I finally decided to go with a soft neutral and create a light and calm space. The walls went from a dark color, Sherwin Williams Poised Taupe to a much lighter neutral color, Sherwin Williams Silver Strand. It is a soft gray that has a slight blue hue to it. It flows nicely with the living room and hall (both painted in SW Accessible Beige). It really ties in nicely with the pop of blue (SW Rainforest) that just peeks in from the dining room.
I have kept the stairs with the darker treads. I am purchasing a runner for the stairs and need to decide to stick with the black or go totally neutral and paint them all white. It all coordinates nicely with the black and white rug that I purchased from Home Goods.
A few pics from over the years!
And here we are today! I actually hired (gasp!) a painter to paint the foyer and up the stairs and through the upstairs hallway. We finally have a cohesive space with one color running throughout. Yay!
Have a great weekend!

I do like like that gray. I am planning on painting my bedroom in a light shade of gray. I have learned so much from you over the years for painting furniture, etc. and look forward to learning more. Thanks for all your you have taught us.

Thank you, Peggy and good luck with your bedroom!

Oh Suzanne!!! How long did it take you to do all that stenciling?!!?! That must have been incredibly labor intensive too….. do you ever get angry or frustrated when you paint over ?? It would drive me nutters! But I guess that’s my apt looks as it does and I go to websites like yours to get my “beautiful living space” fix
Whatever you do, it ALWAYS looks nice
(I am jealous 🙂

Hi Mary! It took AGES to do that stenciling lol! However, I was so happy to paint over it because I was so tired looking at it. It was too busy and limiting in how I could decorate. It was a good experiment and I’m glad I did that vs. wallpaper. I feel that since I actually paid someone to paint the foyer this time, it will prevent me from painting over it! Take care 🙂
