Choosing a new kitchen is exciting; you can be creative and design your dream space in your home. If you haven’t done this before, you do have to be careful not to go over the top as you don’t want to go too over budget – you may be surprised by the costs of things. That said, enjoy the process and look forward to cooking in your new kitchen once it’s finished. Below are five things to think about when deciding on your new kitchen.

Decide on the type of flooring you would like
Will you choose laminate flooring or tiles? Each has its own benefits and negatives, which you should be aware of before deciding which one you will choose. Laminate flooring is more durable and can take a lot of wear and tear; if you have children who spend a lot of time in the kitchen, this could be a viable option. Tiles are also very durable and can be more hard-wearing, but also a bit more expensive.
What type of lighting will you go for?
Good lighting can make a room look bigger and compliment the kitchen furniture within. Depending on your preference, warm lighting can bring a cozy feeling to the kitchen, where cold lighting can make the room feel sharper and more luxurious. If you fancy adding some technology to the room, you can opt for smart bulbs to change the room’s color, depending on your mood. You will also want to consider what type of lights you will use, spotlights, pendant lighting, or under the counter lights. Depending on what you go for will have a significant effect on how the room feels.
The layout of your new kitchen
When deciding on the new kitchen, think of your room as a blank canvas. Remove all the furniture from the equation and be creative! Within reason, you can design your layout however you want, as long as it works within the space. If you’ve always wanted an island, go for it, a new eye level oven and built-in microwave is an option as long as it fits the budget. If you get a professional designer in, they can create a virtual reality view of your new kitchen so that you can see how it will look in real life. Choosing the workspace and units
Possibly the most exciting part of designing your new kitchen is getting to choose the worktops and units. This is where you get to really feel how your kitchen is going to look and match your ideas with realistic options. Here you will get to choose your favorite kitchen cabinet sizes, what type of worktop you would like – wooden, glass top, granite (there are many options), and style you would like. Are you going to opt for an ultra-modern design, rustic, or a contemporary kitchen?
Selecting new appliances
Part of designing your new kitchen will be deciding the appliances that you will be choosing to go inside the kitchen. Will you opt for a built-in dishwasher? Will you get a single or double oven, and will you install any appliances into the units, like a microwave? To save money, you may opt to use what you have already got, but if you do have the budget, depending on the appliances you choose will affect the layout of your kitchen.
