Twenty-twenty has forced all of us to spend more time indoors, in our own houses. Which has made a number of us want to change things around a bit, refresh the space, and make it look different.
Of course, it’s not always economical to buy new furniture or renovate the lounge, but by getting a little creative, it is possible to update your home and give it a fresh, new look. Here are five ways to do just that!
Add A Feature Wall
A feature wall makes your living space stand out immediately, besides adding a whole new dimension to the room. It is, afterall, called a feature wall for a reason! Choose any wall of your lounge or living room, and make that the focus of the room. Either paint it a different colour to the rest (if you’re bold enough, go for a bright red or orange blue) or give it a new look with some snazzy wallpaper. Alternatively (though this might be more on the expensive side), give it a brick or wooden panelling.
Highlight the wall with paintings and/ or family photographs and let it be the talking point at every party!
Change The Flooring
Sometimes, all you need to give your home a new feel is a new flooring. We usually don’t pay much attention to the flooring but it does comprise a large part of our house – and is something we look at all the time! Choosing laminate flooring not only gives the house a fresh, updated look and feel, but you have a wide range to choose from and at an economical price too!
Another option is to get a feature carpet – either a Persian rug with intricate designs or a plush, cosy one (if it’s the bedroom you want to update) or just a bright-coloured one – a dose of colour and design will be sure to change the mood of the room.
Plants And Flowers
Indoor house plants and flowers are a super easy way to add both life and colour (and a sense of warmth too) to your home. If you prefer calming shades of green, go for plants but if you are looking to brighten up your space, nothing does that better than fresh flowers!
If, however, you don’t have green fingers, or the time to care for your plants and flowers, get the desired effect with artificial plants and flowers – there are so many gorgeous (and lifelike) ones available online and in stores nowadays!
Move Your Furniture Around
This is something that is so simple and costs nothing, yet we don’t tend to do it often. Just a quick move around of the furniture in your room – or for that matter even a painting or the position of a plant – can give it a new look. Try it and see the difference yourself!
Soft Furnishings
Cushions, throws, curtains, pillows can all make a big difference as well. It can be expensive to change your sofa or even the upholstery of your sofa, but it will only cost you a few dollars to get some new cushions and a cosy throw, and voila, your sofa looks spanking new!
