Oh, my. I seem to have a water theme in my dining room! I painted my walls in Sherwin Wiliams, Rainstorm (Post HERE) and have now added the vintage sideboard in General Finishes chalk style paint, Stillwater Blue (Post HERE). I am very happy with how the blues complement one another and also added my new rug (Post HERE) into the room. It is a perfect fit! The peonies just bloomed in my garden and I added them to my Mother’s Day roses – they smell heavenly!
For those of you who may not have read the post on the sideboard, here are a few Before pics. They show how “trash” can definitely become treasure (Post HERE on refinishing wood top)!

So beautiful! I love blues and the challenge of marrying them together for a pulled together look, as you’ve done here. And your flowers are heavenly! The recent changes you’ve made to your dining room are lovely!

Thank you so much, Jeannie! I really appreciate it and yes, those flowers are heavenly. I just love the smell of the peonies! Shame they are gone so soon after blooming!

sUzanne,
Still faithfully following your weekly posts and appreciate your helpful tips…
Your dining room looks gorgeous and I envy your energy and enthusiasm to change things up so often. I am curious about the top of your sideboard because it looked so incredibly damaged…..what product did you use on the big gouges on the front edge? I have yet to find a wood filler product that takes stain in a realistic way. If
I had scored that piece, I’m sure I would have filled the top areas of damage and had to paint the top. The scratches looked so deep, as well…..I would love to know how you made it look so good…. thanks
Suzanne
Hi Sharlee, I use Elmer’s wood filler. I then sand it way back and repeat the process over and over. In this case, the top was so gauged that I had to actually sand it so far back that in a few spots, it is slightly dipped now. However, it isn’t noticeable and was worth saving the top as it is a lovely wood. i find that if you use a wood filler that is tinted, it will definitely help but even then, you have to stain it dark to get it to somewhat blend. i mean, you can’t really go lighter (like a whitewash or gray stain) or it will be too noticeable. i hope this helps 🙂 not sure why my caps isn’t working – sorry!

The transformation is incredible!
I just purchased some of the gf chalk paints to try, and they are quite a bit more watery than other chalk paints I’ve used. is this the norm for this brand? or should I go back to the retailer for exchange? I would appreciate your comments.
Suzanne
Hi Terri, Yes, the GF chalk paints are not as thick as Annie Sloan. They do cover well and I typically only need two coats (same as AS). I would give it a try as I have had success with the product. Good luck with it 🙂
