Favorite Find Monday – Vintage Chest

9 November, 2015 by Suzanne

Today’s find is truly lovely. It is such a pretty little chest of drawers. It has gorgeous original hardware, very interesting detailing along the sides and such a pretty top.IMG_2675IMG_2680 IMG_2679 IMG_2678

Shall I add here that – yes – I am going to paint it. The piece is not in pristine condition and it will look great when done… honestly, I am tired of justifying.  More on that tomorrow.  Have a fantastic Monday!

This will look beautiful, I am sure. Stop justifying! Everyone has their own tastes and the wood lovers are certainly entitled to their opinions but if painting is not to their tastes they really should step away- no need for starting snarky comments.

You dont need to justify your work. I happen to love it and enjoy mixing painted and unpainted pieces. Different strokes for different folks.

I agree with Janice. If people don’t like the idea of painting a piece of furniture, I say, let them find their own pieces of furniture and DON’T paint it. Simple!

It will be beautiful!!! And after all, it does belong to you. You can do with it whatever you want, paint it or not. And like my beautiful Momma always said, if ya don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all!!! So let the naysayers go elsewhere!!!! Just my half cents worth!!!!

I can’t wait to see how it turns out ! It’s so fun to see the transformation and
the love that goes into a piece. It breathes new life and enjoyment for vintage
furniture. Let the next generation strip and stain it back, if they so choose !

Yes, it’s very annoying when people think they know it all regarding painted versus brown wood. They watch too much antique roadshow when the hosts are referring to original finishes on truly antique pieces. Depression era furniture was mass-produced and oftentimes not good quality. So tiresome to hear some raving about the “beautiful” wood…”don’t paint” and etc. It’s going to look great when you paint it!

I agree, better to paint and give a piece new life than put it on the scrap heap. You do beautiful work Suzanne, keep it up.

I’m sure this will be a beautiful piece when you are through with it. Love all your transformations!!!!

I do not love every piece of painted furniture or unpainted that I see but luckily for the people around me I don’t feel the need to share that. I don’t see why others do either. I doubt one person has re-done a piece because someone said it was ugly unless it was the one paying for it. I also don’t have to desire to own a piece to appreciate its beauty or the work that went into it.
