This past weekend, I worked on a Hepplewhite style dresser that I purchased a few weeks ago. It’s a great size and the drawers open and close flawlessly – a real gem. I went with General Finishes milk paint in my favorite color, Driftwood. It seemed to be missing something, so I added a stripe along each side in their Halcyon Blue. It was definitely heading in the right direction but was too linear and sharp for the piece. It needed some shabbiness to add contrast and so out with the sandpaper! The distressing softened it up and added interest.
I love the result…
The original pulls had aged to a very dark finish, which typically I like a lot. However, I wanted to add some glam to the piece. I decided to polish them until their original brass finish shined through. I happen to love the shabby glam look!
I purchased this lovely, french gold stand the same day I bought the dresser. It has gorgeous detailing and lines and a wonderful, aged patina. I think it pairs well with my shabby glam look! All ready to go to Lucketts!

Another beautiful job, and quite unique! What did you use to shine the brass drawer pulls? They look amazing and I have some items that need some polishing too. Thanks!

Hi Cora, I actually used good old Brasso Polish for these. They were so dark that my typical lemon juice/vinegar/baking soda mix just wouldn’t do the job. Brasso smells so I used a mask and opened the door in my kitchen. Thanks!

I love how you did this! The blue looks so good against the hardware and takes this piece to the next level. Just love it.

How cool and unexpected! I love the way the blue stripes make the hardware pop!
