Vintage Bowfront Dresser Before and After

This was quite a gorgeous find!  I picked it up a few weeks ago and posted about it on Favorite Find Monday (post HERE).  It was claimed pretty quickly by a reader of mine and she came by to discuss colors/finish for the piece.  Her inspiration?  This pic I took at the Annie Sloan Shop in Oxford (post HERE).  The challenge had been thrown and I went to work!  Annie Sloan shop Oxford

I first had to prep the piece. Using wood filler, the missing veneer was patched and sanded back multiple times for a smooth finish. I also used the filler on the top and sides where it had deep scratches.  It was finally ready to paint!

This finish is hard to show in the pics.  It is very pretty and deep in hues of color that are hard to capture on film without it looking too gray or blue.  However, it is a pretty good match to the door above.Chalk Paint CollageVintage Bow Front Dresser in Annie Sloan French Linen Vintage Bow Front Dresser in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

I really wish I was a better photographer!  It is frustrating when I can’t quite capture the color for you all.

I am getting a whole set of furniture tomorrow for a new client and will have some pics to share soon!

  5. Lovely work; amazing transformation! Question: Is there more gold on the dresser top than on the body? If so, how did you apply that? Just can’t quite tell from the pics.

  6. Stunning transformation, Suzanne – you do such beautiful work! It’s hard to tell in the pictures but did you apply the gold gilding wax on the top of the dresser as well? Your client must have been thrilled when she picked it up.

  7. Fabulous! You nailed it and then some! Love the gold gilding. Fortunate for your client all the pulls were in tact and so pretty. Your site is such an inspiration to me as i tackle my own pieces of furniture. I’m a huge fan of Annie Sloan chalk paint too.

  9. Absolutely beautiful! I wouldn’t worry to much about the picture colour! Honestly depending on the resolution of the computer monitor colour can look different.

    • I actually only regret ever selling one piece that I sold about four years ago and should have kept! I’m pretty good at saying goodbye lol!
