One of the big questions people have when they are renovating their home is, what should I do with my old furniture? If you are buying new stuff to replace the old furniture, you might be wondering whether you should just throw it away, how you dispose of it if you do decide to get rid of it, or if there is anything else you could do with it.

Ultimately, it all comes down to what condition the furniture is in and whether you have any use for it. If you are renovating your home, these are the best things you can do with your old furniture.
Upcycle It
A lot of people are unsure what to do with furniture because they don’t need it anymore but it seems a shame to throw it out because it’s still in fairly good condition. The answer here is definitely to upcycle it. You’d be surprised how much difference you can make to a piece of furniture with a fresh coat of paint and a few added details. Wooden furniture is particularly easy to upcycle as long as the wood itself is in good condition underneath.
You might decide to flip the furniture and sell it on for a profit. This is a great way to recoup some of the money you just spent on new furniture. Alternatively, you might decide that the new upcycled piece of furniture will look amazing elsewhere in the house, so you can keep it.
Throw It Out
Sometimes, you can’t really upcycle a piece of furniture because it’s just too far gone. You could put the time and money into repairing it but it wouldn’t really be worth it, in which case, you should just throw it out. However, it’s important that you call a proper junk removal service so they can dispose of it properly. Large items like that need to be handled in the right way to minimize the damage they do to the surrounding environment.
Donate It
What if a piece of furniture is in fairly good condition but you don’t have a place for it and you don’t want to spend the time upcycling it? The best thing to do in that situation is to donate it to somebody that will use it. Do you know anybody that has recently moved into a new place? They might be very grateful for the offer of some free furniture. There are also plenty of thrift stores that are always looking for good quality furniture. It might be worth seeing if any local charities that help vulnerable people can find a home for your furniture too because many of them offer a free collection service. If you don’t want your furniture to go to waste but you don’t have a place for it yourself, donating it is the best option.
Ideally, you should upcycle or donate your furniture so it doesn’t end up contributing to waste. However, if you do have to throw it out, make sure that you dispose of it in the right way.
