What is regular cleaning?
Regular cleaning is something that most people do every day, and certainly every week. It comes down to a few routine tasks that get completed in the same way every week.
While regular cleaning will keep your home clean and tidy, it isn’t always the best for that real fresh feeling.
Regular cleaning usually involves:
- Vacuuming, mopping, and sweeping the floors.
- Wiping the toilets, sink, mirrors, and other surfaces
- General tidying of the surfaces and putting things away
What is deep cleaning?
Deep cleaning usually takes place every 4-6 months and is a more intensive clean and takes longer to get done too.
A correct deep clean will clean the places that aren’t usually covered in the regular clean. Furniture might be moved, decluttering is most likely going to happen, and even the little crumbs in the drawers will be vacuumed up.
What extra items get added onto a deep clean?
- Washing curtains, rugs, blinds, and other upholstery items
- Calling in a professional carpet cleaners
- Deep cleaning the inside of the oven, microwave, and fridge
- Dusting the high areas, the bookcases, under all of the heavier furniture
- Descaling taps, tiles, showerheads, and more
Where do you start with a deep clean?
Like every good project, a plan is the best thing to do. While every room will need a deep clean, you need to know where you want to start and why. Some rooms will take longer than others.
If you only have a short time to clean, then you can get a lot done in a few hours.
Eat the frog first. The high traffic and the most used area is usually the kitchen. Although you clean the kitchen almost every day, a deep clean, however, will improve the hygiene of the kitchen overall too.
In the cupboards, small appliances, inside the refrigerator, the oven, and more. Try to do the kitchen on day one.
Bathrooms are the point in the home where people get washed, bathe, clip nails, and more. They can get very dirty pretty quickly.
Vacuuming and dusting is a starting place, and then cleaning all of the mirrors, toilets and scrub the tubs. The bathroom can be one of the quickest tasks once you get into it.
Make a list for each room, and tick it off as you go!
How to make deep cleaning fun
Many people want to put off cleaning because it just isn’t that fun.
However, we all really enjoy the outcome. In order to make your cleaning a bit more fun, having a playlist of music that you enjoy is a great way to start.
Put on some loose-fitting clothing so you can bend and stretch as much as you need.
Cleaning is also good for your mental health too. Cleaning and organizing give people a clear outcome, something to be proud of and happy about. It has even been suggested that cleaning can help you to concentrate and reduce your anxiety too.
It can even help you to increase your focus when you deep clean over the space of a number of hours.
Deep cleaning effectively clears away the last 4-6 months of hidden dust, while regular cleaning is a lighter but effective cleaning that happens more often.
