I’m sharing my living room today, now that we finally were able to finish the wallpaper project that I began before Christmas! We began by installing a chair rail in the room and decided to add wallpaper over it.
First, let me claim that I am in NO way a wallpaper expert. This is the first room that I have ever attempted and even then, I had my good friend from work come by and honestly, she did most of it herself. Jane used to own a design company and has hung a ton of wallpaper in the past. I was very lucky, because without her expertise, this job would have take a very, very long time! Here is Jane with my mother-in-law, who also came by to lend a hand.
I had woefully underestimated the amount of wallpaper that I would need for the room. I suggest to anyone who is making a wallpaper purchase, that you allow at least 2 rolls more than you think you will need. By the time you account for the repeat of the design, you really need much more than the math says you will need.
I also think that this is a two person job. My paper was not pre-pasted, so we rolled the paste onto the paper before applying to the wall. The directions actually said to roll the paste directly on the wall and then apply the paper, but we found it easier to move the cut pieces around and manipulate them after we added a lot of paste onto the paper itself. It became easier to slide, basically.
We took the sconces off the top of the mantel and I may replace them or I may keep them (I like to shop!).
A huge project now complete! I have yet to furnish the room but I’m taking that part slowly 🙂
