Most first-time buyers are either coming from their parents’ home or from rented accommodation. For many, it is an exciting time, and an opportunity to finally start living their lives to the full.
It turns out, though, that these buyers are also quite fussy. They’re looking for more than a pad to crash in the evenings. They want somewhere offering genuinely useful features.
In this post, we take a look at the most important features to new homebuyers today and what they’re looking for in a modern home.
Patios
Why are patios so important to first-time homebuyers?
The main reason is the fact that they offer so much space. A paved area expands living arrangement outside, providing additional entertaining space.
Remember, a lot of first-time buyers purchase properties with relatively small interior floor plans. So having an indoor-outdoor space is a great way to make up for any square footage that might be lacking.
Exterior Lighting
First-time home buyers also want their properties to have exterior lighting.
Again, there are good reasons for this.
The first, obviously, is security. Burglars will rarely break into a well-lit property.
The second is the way that it looks. Houses that have lighting around the foundations look warm and welcoming at night. They have a kind of regal appearance that makes them look grander.
Laundry Rooms
Sometimes, avoiding first-time home buyer mistakes can be a challenge. You can think you’ve found the perfect home, only to discover that it doesn’t offer key utilities you need to live well.
Laundry rooms are a good example. Relatively few novice buyers consider them in advance. But it turns out that they’re essential once you start actually living in a home and trying to run a family.
Open Floor Plans
If you thought open floor plans were a passing fad, then prepare for a rude awakening. This trend hasn’t gone anywhere. And, if anything, it seems to be becoming more important. Virtually all premium properties on the market today feature some sort of open layout on the ground floor.
Open floor plans are stylish for a couple of reasons. First, they allow you to make better use of your space. You get so much more flexibility and can arrange your furniture how you like.
The second style benefit is that it makes your interiors feel bigger. You could be living in a small apartment with a total floor space of just 500 square feet. But if it is an open plan, then it always feels so much bigger.
Quality Siding And Roofing
Lasting, new home buyers are also looking for quality siding and roofing. You might not think it, but the way your roof looks has a massive impact on how a property feels to behold.
When it comes to roofing materials, most people prefer slate. It has a premium look about it, and it lasts for many decades – much longer than asphalt shingle.
First-time buyers want to see roofing and siding materials with longevity. They don’t want to buy a property, only to have to carry out expensive renovations in the near future.
