Congratulations! You’ve sold your home and you’re moving to an equally good or better home. Moving from a home in which you created so many memories is a big step. You will always have a special place in your heart for this home. As with most things in life, at some point, you have to move on. It’s better to celebrate your time in your home than to be sad over the fact that you’ll never be back again. Get the whole family involved, invite some out of town friends and make a big party out of it.
Throw a moving party
You’ve heard about moving in parties, well have you heard of moving out parties? It’s basically the same thing but in opposite. Call over some of your closest friends and family members, and make a thing about it. Have some coffee and tea together first. Some snacks for those with a sweet tooth would be nice. Biscuits, cakes, doughnuts and chocolate treats would get everyone pumped full of energy. Caffeine and sugar, a great combination for changing the somber tone to one of adulation and laughter. Make sure you know what everyone likes though, it would be a wasted opportunity to not be a gracious host for one last time.
Time to get funky!
Hot drinks and treats have been put down the hatch, now it’s time for some music! Get people moving and grooving with some classic tunes. It would add to the nostalgia and send-off party tone if you were to play some classics that everyone can dance to. Clear the furniture out of the way and create a large open space in the middle of your living room. Let the alcohol flow! It’s time to make some cocktails and give out the ice-cold beers. Put beer bottles on ice in a cooler and just let it sit in the corner of the room. Hire a cocktail bartender that can make your guests any kind of exotic drink they would like. Buy some glazed cherries and Greek olives so you get an authentic taste.
The day after
You’re almost at moving day. Now is the time to take some final photos of you and the family enjoying the home. You may have been in the home for many years, possibly decades. It may be just another house to some but to your family, it’s played a big part in your lives. Watch some old home movies together. Pour snacks like chips or popcorn in a large bowl and sit back on the sofa. You’ll laugh and cry but these moments will never be forgotten.
Making it easy
One final thing, planning your moving day. Rather than make a big chore out of it, use a reputable moving company that offers you some perks. This company will provide special trucks that will be modified to handle high-value items and prevent them from cracking or smashing. They will do all the heavy lifting, you just need to sit back and reminisce.
Moving parties are the last hurrah of your time in the neighborhood. Make a big deal out of it because it is. Then sit with the family to enjoy the good times and watch your home slowly empty on moving day.
