The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home. It has a great practical function and is often the social hub of the home. Everyone needs food and creating great meals that the entire family can share is a ritual that can keep your household happy and united.
So, when it comes to finding the right style for your kitchen you need to think about the long term use, and how many people are going to come through this room and use it. You should also keep in mind how often it will get used. You will want a kitchen that can take everything that life throws at it, from food waste to the odd cut from a carving knife. There will be much that will get spilled within the kitchen, and there will also be a great deal of steam and grease from all of the food that gets cooked there. Kitchens can be hot places, especially when your cooker is working hard to produce several dishes all at once. This heat can cause problems for much of the decor in your kitchen too.
Getting The Right Cooking Appliance
What is a kitchen without a cooker? The most important thing that exists within any kitchen is the cooker, and very often the type of cooker will define the whole room and how it is used. Getting the right cooker for the job is vital. Firstly, think about the amount of cooking that you will be doing. Will you be cooking multiple items at once? If you are likely to host dinner parties or have a large family that will eat together, then you may want to get something with a double oven. Have a look at a selection of sizes and see what best suits your needs.
A range can be good if you have enough space for them as they will provide the opportunity to cook a large amount of food. They are generally very well built and have multiple hobs, as well as the potential for a hot plate too which may be useful to you.
If your home cannot accommodate a full range, then you may want to get separates and you may find that the option of getting range tops meets your needs if you are unable to have your hob next to your oven.
Conventional gas or electric ovens may be a very cost-effective solution to the need to get a cooker. They are smaller than a range, and so you may find that if you do not have much space that they are a better option for you.
Whatever you decide to go for, you will need to make sure that you get a good quality extractor fan system above your hobs. These will be a lifesaver when it comes to preventing all of the vapor and oil from your cooking congregating on your walls and ceilings and leaving a sticky residue.
Finding The Right Worktops
Another important aspect of the kitchen is the worktop. For many people, there is not that much thought that goes into picking the right material. But this needs to be very hardwearing and it should withstand a lot of work. Think about getting solid wood or even stone worktops. Many cheaper units will not stand the test of time. Solid wood units such as oak will also look great, although they will require some maintenance in order to keep them looking great.
Cupboards And Units
Storage is a big issue when it comes to kitchens. Our lives are often so busy these days that we will do increasingly larger shops in order to carry us through for a longer period. Added to this, supermarkets love to throw great food offers at us and we quite often end up coming home with so much food that we just do not know what to do with it all.
Getting cupboards that make economical use of the space will be vital. Often, a unit may have impractical shelving or will be designed in a way that you cannot access much of the space to store anything. Speak with a company that offer a bespoke design service as they will measure your kitchen and help you to create a set of units that will give you plenty of space without encouraging on the areas that you need for cooking and socializing within your kitchen.
Kitchen Wall Tiles
While you probably will want to paint the walls of your kitchen in a color scheme that you will enjoy, you should keep an area of a couple of feet above the top of your worktop so that you can tile them. Think about getting tiles made from a material that will be easy to wipe clean as you will no doubt find that this part of your kitchen will get rather greasy and dirty if left.
Don’t Forget The Kitchen Sink
Of course, the kitchen sink is something that is essential. Nobody enjoys washing the dishes, but you still need to get them. Think about getting a nice deep basin that you can get a lot of dishes in. This will save you time and effort having to refill your washing up bowl.
Having a double basin may well prove to be rather useful as it will give you can either keep one basin for food preparation or if you are washing a lot of dishes at once, it will make them much easier to manage as you can use one bowl for soaking your items, and one for rinsing.
Think about the quality of the sink that you are buying. Ideally, a purchase such as this should be very rare and you will want to buy a hardwearing material that also stands the test of time in terms of fashions. Stainless steel is generally one of the best options as it is easy to keep clean and it is not likely to ever get damaged.
