The cedar chest is finished! I took it glam with sharp black and gold details that highlight the brass hardware. This is such a great vintage piece. It can be used as a table or in the bedroom to store linens. There are just so many uses for this piece.
The paint is General Finishes Lamp Black, the gold stencils are in Royal Stencil Creme (see Tutorial below) and the piece was sealed in General Finishes Flat Out Flat sealer. I also added a coat of their wipe-on urethane to the top to give it extra protection. It was missing its side handles and I had a few in my stash that I added. The interior is super clean and roomy. Oh, and the girls and I made a few little terrariums the other day and you can see one in the pics 🙂

Oh so nice. I love how the stencilingredients in gold glams it up.
Suzanne
Thanks, Debra!
Peggy
I love it! The gold stenciling is great!
Suzanne
Thanks, Peggy!

I’m curious, why didn’t you continue the stenciling down the front and back?
Suzanne
Hi Gayle. I pondered it. I stood and looked but I came to the decision that it would actually distract from the hardware. It would all just jumble up and instead of enhancing the hardware, it may fight it. Sometimes it is hard when to know when to stop!

Wow – serious elegance !
Suzanne
Thanks, Mary!

Very nice job on the trunk. Clean and nice looking but still with the original character attached. Where should I search for VERY large green glass jugs/vases/bottles ? I noticed a few in your home.
Suzanne
Thanks so much! I actually collect old green glass and have for years. I have found a few in thrift shops (that really large one was a score) and a few in estate sales. Oh, my mother also gave me a few. If you keep your eyes peeled, they do turn up. There is always HomeGoods if you don’t care if they are old or not. They sometimes have a few!

Looks great, Suzanne! I’m working on a black and gold piece right now, and that combo never seems to fail. Hope you have a great week! Cynthia
Suzanne
Thanks, Cynthia – I agree. Can’t go wrong with black and gold! Cheers! I bet your piece will be gorgeous 🙂

Wow, what a difference! Love the stencil pattern too?
Sue
I love it all. The stenciling on top makes it a great coffee table conversation piece too.

Wow – it’s unrecognizable – and gorgeous. My parents bought it in Cape Cod about 50 years ago – it’s hard to believe that it’s been trucked from there to Pittsburgh to Maine to Maryland all these years and now is restored so beautifully – thanks Suzanne! You are a wizard. I hope the new owners will love it as we all have over the years. Joyce
Suzanne
Thanks, Joyce! So glad you love it! I can’t wait to get more pics of the house!!!
