Are you thinking about moving home? Whether you have already moved or if you are in the process of doing so, there are a few safety precautions we should mention. When you move into a new home in a new area you will be unfamiliar with how things work and where things are. While you are out exploring it is worth protecting your property.
Here are three things to consider when you move into your home.
Pool
Does your new home have a pool? That is amazing, everyone wishes they could have a private pool. However, when you have a pool in your garden you have to use your common sense. This is especially true if you have children in your home. You don’t want them wandering out into the garden then accidentally falling into the pool, this is of course a worse case scenario. The best way to avoid that happening is to put a barrier between the house and the pool. A gated surround will give you all the protection you and your children need against the pool. Make sure your children aren’t able to open the gate, perhaps a coded access gate would be beneficial.
Windows
Next you need to think about your windows, they need to be strong and sturdy. When you move into your new home or preferably beforehand check that all windows have safety catches. Safety catches ensure that the windows can’t open all the way, this is a great safety feature to have.
You also need to think if you live in a high hurricane risk area about the strength of your windows. Will the standard windows you have withstand winds of up to 200mph? If not, then you could be in for nasty surprise when they shatter glass everywhere. To avoid this you should look at installing impact windows. These are stronger, sturdier windows designed to withstand the power or rain, wind, and debris during a hurricane.
Doors
Finally, we have mentioned windows so it seems fitting to mention doors. When you move into your new home it is worth getting the locks changed. This should be among one of the first things you do when you move. The risk of not getting it done is a previous owner strolls into your home as they kept a set of keys. You can change the locks yourself if you are able to. All you have to do is buy everything you need online. Altenatiely, you can call in a locksmith to help you with this. It takes a matter of minutes for them to change the locks for a lifetime of peace of mind.
You should make sure that along with the locks that you apply latches to all doors that lead to the outdoors. You never know if little ones will wander around opening the doors. Be on the safe side and double lock those doors.
Think about investing in a video doorbell. This gives you extra reassurance that nothing sinister is going on. It records when someone approaches your door and sends you alerts to your designated device. You are also able to speak through it, so once the button is pressed you can talk to whoever is on the other side.
