Your bathroom should be a very private place. After all, it’s where you are at your most vulnerable. Consequently, you want to make it as private as possible, so you can feel safe and relax while you’re in there. Now, there are two different things to consider if you want a private bathroom:
- People shouldn’t be able to see into your bathroom
- People shouldn’t be able to hear what’s going on in your bathroom
If this is the case, you have a truly relaxing space where you don’t have to feel anxious about someone seeing your shower or hearing you while you’re in there. Achieving bathroom privacy is extremely possible, and it can be done on a relatively small budget as well. Below, we have a few ideas to try out, some of which are very cheap, others that are more on the expensive side.
Soundproofing tape for the door
The first idea you can try is to add soundproofing tape around the door to your bathroom. This can sometimes be called weatherproofing tape, but the idea is that it seals around the gaps in your door frame. Thus, less noise can leave your bathroom, so you have more privacy. It also means less noise can enter it, which is great if you’re lying down in a bath trying to relax. You can block out the sounds from the rest of your home, enjoying some much-needed privacy.
Another idea to tackle the noise issue is to have some speakers in your bathroom. You can choose an expensive and less expensive approach for this one. The expensive approach is to install speakers in the ceiling, which is quite a bougie idea. This gives you a proper spa experience in your bathroom, but it’s understandable if it might be a little bit beyond your budget.
Alternatively, get yourself some waterproof speakers that you can keep in the bathroom at all times. Now, whenever you go in, you can turn the speakers on and play some music or sounds of your choice. It creates a more relaxing atmosphere but gives you the added privacy as people can’t hear what’s going on in the bathroom. This is ideal for people who might get nervous or anxious when going to the toilet as they feel like other people can hear them!
Next, you can move onto the other element of privacy, which is arguably the biggest consideration for most people. If your bathroom has windows, you have to deal with the possibility that people can see through them into this room. Obviously, you don’t want this to happen – especially when you’re showering! So, how can you ensure that you have the utmost privacy and your bathroom time is kept clear of prying eyes.
Well, one idea is to get frosted glass panes installed. Here, you have glass that is designed to look frosted and almost blurry. You can’t see out of it, and people can’t see through it. But, light can still pass through the glass, so it still works like a proper window in lighting up your bathroom. If someone tries to look through the window, they will be treated to blurry images that they can’t make out at all.
Privacy window films
Naturally, the previous option isn’t that budget-friendly as you need to replace your existing window. Instead, you can achieve a similar effect with some privacy window film. There are plenty of variations of this stuff out there, but the idea is that you stick a film to your window and it transforms the glass pane.
You can actually get frosted window films or ones that provide a slightly different effect, yet stop people from seeing into the room. Shop around to find one that you like the best, then apply it to your bathroom windows.
Shutters or curtains
Lastly, you can achieve more privacy with some curtains or shutters in your bathroom. The only issue with this is that the moisture might cause curtains to deteriorate or grow mold. Shutters tend to be a better option, though you also have to deal with a lack of natural light if they’re closed. Still, both options will make your bathroom more private and can be useful in the evenings.
Just like that, you’ve created a bathroom space that allows for more privacy. You feel more comfortable whenever you’re in there as nobody can see in, and it’s more soundproofed. Every time you use your bathroom, your anxiety levels will be the lowest they’ve ever been.
