Time waits for no man, and it turns out that it waits for no residence, either. You don’t have to have negligent intentions in order for this to bite you. Simply take an extended vacation for a year and you’ll no doubt come back to unwanted cobwebs and dust lining your abode from top to bottom, perhaps less than a haunted house, but on the way there.
This is true of the decors you select. It’s very easy to see when a home feels dated and out of touch. From overly patterned and heavy curtains to textured wall paint, to a range of outdated furniture and tiresome ornaments you really feel like getting rid of. Note that this doesn’t mean a house has to be ultra-modern to seem lovely. Even rustic decorations and antiques can be used to more beautifully lay out a house, but it’s in the hidden implements that its ‘current’ nature is defined.
But how can you update your home for the current decade? Let’s consider that together:
Consider Home Implements
New home implements can help you update the space without having to tear down the old, or can redefine a space in spite of the old. That can be a great first step to take. For instance, perhaps your dining room is starting to look drab. You’ve stripped back the textured wall decorations and have painted a brighter color, but something is missing. Is the answer more furniture? No, you’d prefer to keep things minimal. Perhaps one outstanding feature, such as Murano Glass Chandeliers, could help you renew the space with a beautiful addition that helps it stand out, and that is present and NOW in it’s decorative presence? That could be a wonderful place to start – and we recommend starting there (or near it).
Stripped-Back Design
There’s a real sense of neutrality to be gained from stripping back the design of your home and focusing on the elements that need to be there. Then, you can work from the ground up. Perhaps you’ve notice that your coffee table in your living room is rarely use, and it takes up too much floor space. Could side tables next to the sofas provide a worthwhile alternative, particularly now you have little children running around? Stripping back helps you see clearly, and from there, you can implement decisions more conducive to your aims. Even if you have to place items in storage for a while, this can be worth doing.
Consistency
Just stay consistent. That itself can help you avoid dating your property. This is because usually, good decors is only as good as it’s weakest link. Consistency means keeping your visual motifs together and tight. Does that mean you can’t experiment? Of course not. But clashing curtains with bed covers, or wallpaper that doesn’t match the room, or colors incorrectly geared for your lighting fixtures can sometimes cause clashes, and that leaves a space feeling dated and stale. Consistency is the name of the game.
With this advice, we hope you can more easily update your home for the current decade!
