When you finally accept an offer on your home, you may think that it’s time to celebrate. However, when one stress ends, another is beginning. You have now sold up and have had your offer on a new home accepted, but you have a couple of nerve wracking months ahead hoping that nothing goes wrong and the property chain that you are in doesn’t collapse. Moving house is one of the most stressful experiences that you can ever go through, which is probably why we don’t do it that much. Read on to find out how you can banish the stress from moving house.
Be Organized
If you aren’t the most organized of people, you need to learn how to craft a to do list. With a prioritized list, you will be able to tick off your jobs and the things you need to do prior to moving day. Think about phoning around the local house movers in advance, ensure that you make a note of when you contact your home loan lender, chase up your lawyer, and start packing. Being organized means doing things as soon as they arise. If you receive a fixtures and fittings form from your property lawyer, don’t put it in a drawer and sort it at the weekend, fill it out and post it back quickly. The lack of urgency that you have will translate into your property chain, it can stagnate and parties within the chain may become frustrated and pull out.
Practicalities
When it comes to packing, it is an art form that needs to be mastered. Take a look at the best packing tips when moving home and get your boxes ready early. Lay out your materials and start packing non essential items as soon as you can. If you haven’t used an item in twelve months, but you still want to keep it, wrap it and pack it. Purchase some decent bubble wrap and brown tape to wrap up your most delicate items. For crockery and fine china, don’t overload the boxes and mark them as fragile.
If you don’t feel like you have the time, it’s vital that you choose a moving company that has its own bespoke packing service. This means a team of people will come into your home, pack up your life, label up your boxes and transport them to your new pad. This is ideal if there aren’t enough hours in the day and you want your move to be stress free.
Keep The Kids Busy
With a small brood in tow, it can be worrying when trying to think of ways to keep them occupied. Some kids are reluctant to move home, they will be concerned about moving away from friends, and change can be a scary time for them. Be supportive, and give them ownership of their own packing if they want it. This will help them to feel more in control, and they will be less inclined to misbehave or become a source of stress for you come moving day.
Moving house is not easy. However, by following this guide, you can make your experience just that little bit more stress free.
