Favorite Find Monday: Glass Cabinet

4 June, 2017 by Suzanne

Off to this week’s Favorite Find – a great glass cabinet curbside find!  There was a huge yard sale in my neighborhood today.  I wasn’t able to get out early and by the time we drove around, it was almost over.  I found this piece by the curb.  It hadn’t sold and the owner left it for free to anyone who drove by.  Into the van it went!  It is in bad condition but nothing that can’t be fixed.  Some glue and sandpaper should do the trick.  The case comes apart in sections which makes it easy to transport.  Score!

I’m thinking General Finishes Millstone, as in the Cottage Cabinet I finished years ago.

This lawyers bookcase is a super find. They are usually very expensive. Looks like a keeper to me.

Hi Donna! It was definitely a slap job of white paint lol that is chipping (not in a good way) everywhere. I’m going to sand it back and use General Finishes milk paint on it. Love this product and it will give it a great new look – cheers!

I forgot to add; what about a darker color for the inside? Like a robins egg blue?

As Laurel mentioned…that is indeed an antique lawyer bookcase and the good ones are usually made from mahogany. You have scored!!!

It’s hard to tell from the pictures. Is the bookcase an antique or a reproduction? It may be worthy of stripping and staining. Lawyer’s bookcases are so elegant … and expensive! What a great find you have on your hands. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Cynthia

Hi Cynthia, it actually is old but not old and elegant lol, just old! I sanded it back to smooth and used General Finishes milk paint on it. It looks SO good now! I’ll share in the week!
