I found a fantastic Favorite Find to share with you all today. Except, it is all in bits and pieces so you will have to bear with me! I first spotted the farmhouse tabletop leaning against a wall outside a thrift store. Behind the table was a table leaf and then I saw that there were actually two. I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how they would slide into the table top as there is no middle break in the large, solid wood top. The guy at the store was equally stumped. I then found the two table base ends and the long piece that runs along the bottom. I decided to purchase it and figure out the puzzle later. It was only when I took it out of my car and grabbed it by its very end to pull it out that I finally understood how it worked! The very end pieces of the tabletop slide open to allow the table leaves to fit. Very unusual. It is all there except the two small pieces that slide into each notch in the long piece that fits through each table end. I can have a few made at Home Depot. It is a great find – a huge, solid wood, farmhouse table with two leaves that extend it out to a fantastic size!

Wow – can’t wait to see what you do with this!!!

Hi Linda! I’m thinking of stripping and staining – OMG I have a lot of work ahead of me now lol!

The two “leaves have long pieces of wood that slide into brackets underneath the ends of the table?? If so this was a table made in a furniture store called the Bunkhouse in New Jersey but I am sure others made it too
Suzanne
Thanks so much for the tip! I shall check it out!

I think I have an almost identical table from my mom! She bought it over 30 years ago at a store called the Ivy Barn on Long Island, N.Y. The two leaves are inserted at each end of the table too, which is unusual. They don’t slide under the table. For years, I’ve hated the dark finish but can’t decided what to do with it. I also have the matching breakfront. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

Also, I’ve been thinking about strippingthe table, as well. I’m a beginner so am afraid this project will become overwhelming.

Hi Robin, I’m not a beginner and it is overwhelming for me too! I am going to try stripping it next week and will keep you posted! So interesting about where it may come from. I’m going to google it! Thanks!
