It’s almost the end of the week and I have one more before and after to share! Earlier in the week, I shared the Classic Black Dresser and today’s feature is the Vintage Glam Chest of Drawers.
I had already given this piece a makeover (see HERE). However, I wasn’t happy with the first result and for some reason, it just didn’t fit the piece. I put it back in the garage and finally this week had a chance to give it another try. I decided on General Finishes Chalk Style Paint in the color Midnight Blue. It is a great deep navy and I’ve used it before (Mid-Century Modern Dresser and Farmhouse Cabinet).

Here is the piece now in Midnight Blue. I love this deep, moody navy!
I first sanded back the wax topcoat that I had applied before. This required rubbing 120 grit sandpaper over the piece and wiping off the debris to create a smooth finish. I also took off the original drawer pulls. The chest was painted in two coats of GF Chalk Style paint and was not distressed. After it dried for 24 hours, a coat of GF High Performance sealer was applied using a foam brush.
After the topcoat dried, I lightly brushed Americana Decor Metallic paint over the details. The new drawer pulls give the piece some glam! A vintage piece with a glam twist! Sounds like a drink lol

Hey, I LIKE that metallic chest! ~ I don’t know whether or not it’s a trend in painted furniture these days, but I know my eye appreciates more the dark colors as opposed to the pastel/country/farmhouse colors. Really like the deep blue with metallic accents on the 2nd makeover!
Thanks, Louise! I think darker, moody colors are making a comeback in both decor and wall colors. I’m loving my foyer in that dark Poised Taupe – makes a nice difference to the cool tones of the past decade. I agree!
Pretty, but I thought one of the prettiest things about it was the original handles.
Yes, they looked nice in the first version I did but just didn’t fit the look I was going for this time. They’re stored away for a future project!
I love the midnight blue with the metallic on the details. It’s glam but classy too.
Thanks, Debbie! It’s the first time I’ve used the metallic as a highlighter and like it. It’s a good option if I don’t want to use gilding wax ?
