Last week I decided to (once again) paint and restyle my family room. I had painted it in Benjamin Moore Passion Fruit but honestly, the color was starting to become irritating. For some reason, whenever I paint a room in a bright or deep color, I tend to tire of it easily. I prefer the calmer, more relaxed colors that are soothing. They also allow more flexibility in styling the room, such as with art and decor.
A quick recap – here is the room when we first bought our home and started working on it! This time, I went with Benjamin Moore Guilford Green for the walls. It happens to be Benjamin Moore’s color of the year and I can see why. It is a fabulous neutral green with just enough color to make it interesting but not overpowering. As soon as it went up, I was happy!
The paneling above the mantel was painted in Benjamin Moore White Dove and it ties in nicely with the walls and ceiling beams. I also like how it plays off the whitewashed brick. I showed you yesterday in my tutorial how I changed up my mirror with paint to create a weathered wood look. I wish I could change the color of my sofa but hey, that isn’t happening so I’m still on the lookout for inexpensive throw pillows! The rug is from Ikea and had been in my basement. The coffee table was $14.00 at the thrift store and painted in Annie Sloan Provence with clear and dark wax. I like the glass top and detail on this piece and it has made its way from room to room in my home. I also added the vintage Corinth Blue dresser in the corner, staying with the celestial theme with my hanging star from World Market. I have the Halcyon desk next to the sofa and all the blues merge nicely. The painted sign is from HomeGoods!
I splurged on new roman shades for the french doors and the window. I purchased them from Bed Bath and Beyond and they ran around $60 each. I already had the curtains (purchased from Target) and brought them back out from storage. The little ottoman and other bits and pieces are all thrift store finds that were in other rooms. I love to shop my own home! And there you have it!
The Link Party is tonight and hope to see you then. Please link up your projects as the more the merrier 🙂

You have a beautiful home! Thank you for the tour! I have followed and enjoyed your Blog for a long time! All your painted furniture pieces are awesome.
Suzanne
Thank you so much!
Winnie
Beautiful, peaceful and happy. Hadn’t wanted to say anything, but I thought the Passion color missed the mark. I’ve spent a lot of money on such mistakes myself and knew you would figure it out! It just looks great now as a happy ‘room’!
Suzanne
Thanks, Winnie! I really appreciate it!!!

Ditto what Winnie said! We have all been there trying to get the color just right. Love this color.
Suzanne
I know, right? I got it right this time 🙂 just took me awhile!!

Oh Suzanne, what beautiful soft green color! Wrote the name down for future reference. Swooning over your striped armchair too.
Suzanne
Thank you, Marie! That means so much to me coming from such a talented interior decorator! Cheers!

I also agree with Winnie. The green is both calming and welcoming. You might be able to find a throw for the couch when looking for inexpensive pillows.
Suzanne
Thanks, Cyn! I have a creamy white throw and can’t wait to break it out this fall. I really wish I could change the sofa but that isn’t happening. I really appreciate all your advise and comments!
chris aka monkey
well i am a failure, i looked and looked and could not find a recent post that had pillows for under 10 bucks for you but could not find it and so far with all of the changes in this room i like this one best, can you leave it this way for ten minutes lol xx
Suzanne
Oh, my goodness thanks for looking! I really appreciate it and they are sooooo hard to find! I see them at the thrift stores but even I shy away from soft bedding that is used 🙂 BTW, sorry if you received a nasty comment earlier (responding to one of your comments) she is a troll and continues to come back and post rude comments on my blog. Go figure!
