As a homeowner, you will know that staying ahead of the game is vital to success. What that means is preparing for the seasons to come, rather than reactively completing tasks only as they appear! Indeed, one of the most important seasons for preparation is spring, if you want to have a fun and comfortable summer, that is! The good news is you can find the five most important preparation tasks to complete by the end of the spring season, below.
Make sure your patio is ready to go
Most people like to spend plenty of time outside during the summer, and in preparation for this, making sure that your patio is ready is essential. Common tasks include power washing your patio and patio furniture, as well as replacing any loose or uneven tiles.
If you have a deck you may wish to add a layer of stain and sealant so it looks its best for the summertime, when you are likely to entertain more guests outside.
Additionally, making sure you have somewhere comfortable to sit and eat alfresco during the summer months should be a priority. Be sure to look for good-value patio sets that include both tables and chairs.
Clean and repair your pool
If you have a pool, it must be emptied, cleaned, and repaired by the end of spring, as summer is the time that you are likely to use it most. Indeed, there is nothing worse on a boiling hot day in the middle of summer, than sitting by a pool that you cannot use because it has not been properly cleaned and maintained.
Of course, the repairs and maintenance you will need to do on your pool will depend on the type you have. For above-ground pools, checking for leaks and tears is one of the most important tasks, as these will interfere with your pool’s ability to hold water. Careful inspection of the entire pool shell is crucial, as is the use of a good-quality puncture repair kit.
For in-ground pools, you need to look for loose tiles or any sharp edges that could cause injury, during use, and repair or replace the seas necessary.
Both types of pools will require a working filtration system if you plan on using them for more than a few days, so be sure to clean or replace yours along with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Last of all a thorough clean and scrub of the pool shell will be necessary before you fill it for the warmer weather. Using a power washing can be helpful here, but be careful not to apply too much pressure as this can cause damage that will interfere with the water fastness of your pool.
Sort out your AC provision
Unless you enjoy languishing in the heat for most of the day, you will want to make sure you have a way of cooling your home as the temperature rises. Of course, the most effective option is to use your AC and that means for many households that their AC is in almost constant use.
With that in mind, one of the most vital tasks to complete before the end of spring is to have your AC unit checked and maintained by an ac repair specialist. Indeed, by getting this task done before the summer starts you can avoid the sweaty and uncomfortable experience of losing the use of your AC, and having to wait for it to get fixed, as there tends to be a much higher demand for these services during the summer months.
Install fly screens on your windows and doors
A major nuisance during summer is all the flys and insects that can find their way into your home when you open your doors and windows more frequently.
The good news is that it’s easy to prevent this by installing fly screens. You can even get ones that are magnetic now, so you can easily remove them whenever necessary. Just be sure that you have the cut to size and are ready to go before the summer months hit.
Swap over your linens and textiles
Last of all, in preparation for summer, you will need to swap your cold weather linens and textiles for your warm weather ones. This can mean switching out bedding, towels, throws, and even curtains to ensure you and your family stay comfortable in the heat.
Indeed, switching out heavy curtains or at least putting up voiles and leaving said curtains open using the summer can provide you with many more hours of sunlight, while also keeping the room temperature to a minimum.
Similarly, swapping out duvets and covers for lighter ones for the summer season will prevent you from getting too hot at night to sleep. You may even wish to ditch the duvet altogether and just use the covers when it’s very hot, as this will preserve the look of your bedroom while maximizing comfort.
