Are you renovating your home or building one to sell on the market? Either way, you know that the kitchen is the prize possession of any homeowner or home buyer. Getting the kitchen right can make all the difference when selling your home, or when inviting neighbours round for drinks. Below you will find five of the most popular modern kitchen designs around.
CLEAN AND CLEAR
The clean and clear modern kitchen uses a combination of masculine and feminine design traits, strong contrasting colours such as gold, black, and white, and a traditional island style layout. A clean and clear kitchen should give you a feeling of security and control.
In terms of functionality, the cleanable no clear modern kitchen uses stone countertops that are easy to clean. The lacquer in the cabinets is smooth giving the space a classy feel that compliments the translucent gold light pendants and stainless steel fixings and appliances.
THE HIVE
The Hive modern kitchen design is a deceptively large kitchen space that uses monochrome colour schemes and accepts to give the impression of honeycomb. Again, this kitchen is multi purpose with either an island or tall countertype.
Overall The Hive seeks to create a continuous space where patterned floors meet patterned walls; these are complimented with accent colours and functional styles that create a kitchen both interesting and understated. FLUTTERGON
The Fluttergon kitchen style is mostly white. You have white floors, ceiling, walls, and units. This makes for the perfect modern kitchen anesthetic. But if you’re thinking that’s too much white you’d be correct, the Fluttergon kitchen is complemented with dark Amber butterfly light shades.
Behind the cooking units there is a black backsplash board that looks like a blacked out window. It is made from roughed glass for longevity and results. The cabinets are integrated fully into the kitchen, as is the storage space beneath the kitchen island.
ORBITAL
This modern kitchen design is a little left field. Not in terms of its open plan layout or cleverly hidden appliances and storage space, more for the materials it uses which are not normally found in modern kitchens of this kind. The kitchen vibe as a bar or cafe feels to it.
When you go to your favourite bar or cafe you probably sit at a bench table beneath some chromed glass or lights. The orbital kitchen incorporates these and offers a tiled backsplash wall that adds a sense of space to the kitchen.
UNFINISHED DREAM
Although it was all the rage a few years ago, minimalism hasn’t actually gone anywhere. People still love it and this Unfinished Dream modern kitchen design is her to prove it. At first the Unfinished Dream looks a lot like a high school canteen, but give it a chance.
The minimalist kitchen design attempts to bring out the bare wood finish of the countertops and highlight the bright spaces. It benefits from an open floor plan and floods of light that aren’t obscured with fancy designs. For a natural modern kitchen finish, try the unfinished aesthetic.

Sarah
I love these ideas and a fluttergon kitchen would be my dream kitchen. I’m actually having my kitchen cabinets redone by a local cabinet refinisher in a few weeks, and getting the cabinets painted white. I already have white tile floors in my kitchen and all my appliance are white… so I’m slowly getting that more modern look!
