No matter where you are, winter is biting right now! It may be January and you want to hibernate that little bit longer, but the warmer weather is looming right ahead and you need to consider the jobs that you need to get done around the house before the sunny climes set in.
The spring cleaning list is already long, but you need to think about the necessary jobs that have to be done throughout the home to make life easy for all who live there. When you get the main jobs out of the way, you can save both time and money later on. For example, if you have someone come in to rewire the attic after a leak in the rain, you’re going to save money knowing that it wouldn’t all be damaged again this year! So, with this in mind, let’s look at six January jobs you need to complete around the house.
Change Smoke Alarm Batteries. This should be done every beginning of the year because it could – quite literally – save your life. Batteries get tired over time, and even the smallest fire can cause untold damage. When you have the alarms working, you’re going to be able to save your own life.
Change The HVAC Air Filters. You need to call in the experts for this one. A yearly service by companies like Pezz Electrical Services, LLC is going to make a big difference to your home. A freshened HVAC is good for your breathing, the air quality of your home and it can prevent fires, too.
Spring Cleaning. Get all the furniture out of the way and start cleaning underneath is all. You need to get those hard to reach areas. Baseboards and floors can be thoroughly cleaned, and those hard to reach spots will be done, too.
Washer Works. Do your washing and drying machines work? When was the last time that you cleaned the filters of these? A dryer with filters that are full of lint are also a fire hazard and these need to be cleaned out more than once a month. However, the actual professional cleaning of these machines is going to be the best thing that you do at the start of the year.
Declutter The Closets. Every year, go through the cabinets in your home and start thinning it all down. Anything that you don’t want to keep, recycle, put in the trash or sell. You can give a lot away to charity, too. Seasons change and so does your style, and that’s why your wardrobes need a yearly clear out!
Clear The Gutters. Lastly, a big job for you to do is clean out the gutters. The water running through them in the winter months as well as the debris that you find from leaves and sticks? It can all cause problems and leaks in the attic as well as down the side of the house. So, get the professionals in to clean the gutters – you won’t regret it.
