Whether you’re a stay at home parent, a student with a heavy workload, career-oriented person, or a working parent, fitting housework into your weekly schedule can be a challenge. It can be very easy to put off chores in favour of relaxing after your hard work or for spending a little time with the kids. Everything seems more important than doing that load of washing or cleaning the dishes. That is until it’s built up over a week or two and you now have nothing to wear and need to spend a whole day cleaning just to get back on top of things. If you can figure out a way to spend a tad more time doing housework or consider a house cleaning service to help one day a week. Staying on top of your means that you never have to face a whole day of cleaning and organizing, which is what you want to avoid with a bust schedule.
Let’s have a look at some of the ways you can keep on top on housework even with a busy schedule:
Create Good Habits
Try to plan ahead and allocate each chore that needs completing to a day and time. Rather than just trying to fit it in, make sure you’ve allowed time for it. You’re much more motivated to do it if it’s planned into your routine, than if you’ve already got your mindset on relaxing. Start by allocating the big jobs to a different day of the week so you don’t do the large jobs in one go and then the smaller ones should easily fit around it. Putting a load of washing on each morning, for example, will mean that you don’t end up with a huge pile at the end of the week. Once you’ve done it for a few weeks it will become second nature and run like clockwork.
Keep It Organised
It may seem simple to say, keep it organised, however, the organisation is often the key to success when it comes to keeping on top of the housework. If you have to organise and declutter as well as clean you are a lot less likely to do and do it well. Try not to let the mess build up. A good way to tackle this is to have a cleanup box where you can place items that aren’t where they should be and then look at putting them away at the end of each day.
Remember What’s Important
Now, this isn’t about using all your free, relaxation time to complete housework, it’s about being able to manage your cleaning and fit it in with your already tight schedule. Don’t worry if you miss a chore once in a while for a good reason. Some things are just too important. Every now and again you will need to move your cleaning schedule around for the more important things in life, and this is OK. Try not to be a perfectionist, not everyone lives in an immaculate house, as you see on Instagram.
