Typically, people want to move house because they desire a bigger home and need more space. Or, maybe their lives are changing professionally and they want to go wherever their best career options are. It could be that they are a growing family and need a house that will be closer to schools. Whatever the reason is, stop and think for a second before you list your house. Is it the home or is it the location that is the issue? Can you stay and somehow change your home to better fit your needs?
Sometimes it is worth staying put and adding and extension onto your current home. If you simply want more space or a couple extra rooms, that is entirely possible. Even standard-built homes have the structural integrity needed to bolt on a couple more rooms. For example, consider a loft conversion. Right now you might have pipes and electricity cables that go through the top of your roof and into the attic area, but this can be turned into a brand spanking new room. You’ll need to get a structural survey done for your home to see if you can actually support flooring, plumbing and wiring. If all goes well, you’re on your way to getting a new room installed.
Have you ever considering pushing the reset button? This is exactly what a knock down rebuild is for. Essentially you knock down your current home and salvage as much as you can from it. And then you create a new home exactly to your liking on the same spot where the old house was. Look for a company specialising in knock down rebuilds, which has a professional process. Usually those that try to do these builds on their own will only contract builders. However you need real architects to design your home to your wishes. This is why specialist companies have their own designers, quantity surveyors, builders and draftsmen that all work together stage by stage to build a completely different home.
If you want to get creative, and have the space and the finances, consider building a garden house. This can be a two bedroom structure or perhaps just a room for leisure. It could house an indoor swimming pool or be a guest house.
Before you put the ‘for sale’ sign in your front yard, take a look at these options that all add new space and style to your home. Designing your very own unique home is probably on your bucket list by now.
