Remember the beautiful chest of drawers featured last week? I had fun transforming it with General Finishes Chalk Style paint in the color Limestone, which is such a great neutral! All I needed to do to prep the piece was clean it with a damp paper towel, add wood filler in a few places and sand the scuffs out. Easy peasy!
The piece had three coats of paint applied, one coat of General Finishes Flat Out Flat topcoat and was distressed with 220 grit sandpaper. I lightly sanded over the entire piece to give it a super smooth finish before adding the topcoat. When sanding, the edges were gone over to allow the natural wood to peek through. I really love how the old pulls suddenly have an almost modern twist against the sharp Limestone. Vintage modern!

Hi Suzanne,
What prep work did you do for this piece? It looks like it has a high shine varnish on it, and I have had trouble in the past with high gloss finishes trying to use chalk paint. The chalk paint just slid off, would not stick until I striped the piece and sanded.
Thank you, your piece is great.
