I’ve had fun the past few days working on this great crackle finished dresser that I picked up a few weeks ago. I shared it on my Favorite Find Monday and here is its before pic:
The dresser was full of detail and I knew it would look amazing once it was painted. I went with a classic color combination – Annie Sloan Louis Blue with gold highlights. The gorgeous hardware is original and the dresser even has a working key for those keyhole drawers. Beautiful!
Here is the after!
The dresser had two coats of Louis Blue applied and was then sanded to distress and create a smooth finish. Using Annie Sloan clear wax and Maison Blanche dark brown wax, I both sealed and aged the piece. The details were highlighted with Cire a Dorer gold gilding wax. At the bottom of the post I’ve added my YouTube Channel videos on both adding dark wax and gold gilding wax.
More pics to share!

Looks beautiful Suzanne. The dresser looks like it has a melamine finish. Did you use a primer before putting on the Annie Sloan paint?
Suzanne
Hi Yanina – no I never prime before Annie Sloan paint. I believe that the original finish was quite unusual with a crackle finish and it gave the top paint a lovely sheen. Plus the dark wax rubbed into the clear also gives it that look. Thanks so much!
