I spent a few hours last Sunday moving our living room furniture around (just for a change lol) to create a warmer look for the fall and upcoming winter season. It struck me that I have decorated this entire room with my finds from thrift stores, Craigslist, side of the road pieces or other sources. I added it up and I believe the total spent is less than $500.
The Breakdown: (items highlighted are linked to their original post)
Sofa – $100.00 (down filled from Hickory, NC but mine via Craigslist)
Slipcover – Gift (awesome!)
Rug – $130, Ikea
Small Red Persian Rug – Gift (another awesome!)
Curtains – $3.79 per panel
Coffee Table – $14.99
French Chair – Free, found on side of road in pieces
Large Wooden Chair – About $10.00
Round Drum Table – Free, found in trash
Desk and Chair – appx. $30.00 (desk is for sale on Shop Furniture/Desks)
Two Small Tables (I pushed together under the mirror) – $14.99 ea.
Pottery Barn Mirror – on sale for appx. $120
Trunk – $3.00
Large Antique Chest – $30.00
All the knickknacks/baskets, etc. (except frames) are thrift store finds and all under $5.00 ea.
I think the most expensive items in the room are my frames and the Homegoods Candle on the mantel. I have bought the frames randomly throughout the years and don’t have a price tag for them.
I’m sure my living room may not be everyone’s taste. I would love new matching chairs and a few other upgrades. However, it suits my needs and is warm and cozy for the kids to cuddle up on the sofa and read in front of the fire. Home!

Suzanne,
Just found your blog today! I LOVE YOUR CURTAINS! I also love the shutter with the crest moon! You have a great eye! I guess I should have said I LOVE YOUR LIVING ROOM!!! To have that lovely space for what you spent is amazing! I would love to shop with you.
Blessings
Suzanne
Thank you, Shelly! I appreciate it!

I think it’s lovely, and you’ve got it arranged perfectly around the fireplace. So many people are afraid to “float” furniture in the actual space of the room away from walls. it’s refreshing to see a room truly put together on a miniscule “budget” over time, with vision and love. Great job!
Suzanne
Thank you, Jan!

I love that you are able to create such a beautiful space out of finds like that. It is so easy to rush out to an expensive furniture store or store where you can buy accessories. You’ve created a room that looks just as fabulous but has your own creations in it and it didn’t cost you a fortune. I am crushing on that mirror that you have hanging between the windows!
Suzanne
Thanks, Jamie! I really appreciate it! Super neat reclaimed wood trays on your blog today – great idea!
