The “before” pics of this little vintage bedside table show its wear and tear through the years.
I thought to add some charm with Annie Sloan chalk paint in Aubusson. When distressed, this deep blue looks so good on darker toned woods. I took it to a beachy/cottage/farmhouse (you choose!) look with a lot of distressing to show off its detail. I also filled and patched up the holes from the existing, broken hardware and then added these gorgeous glass pulls from D.Lawless Hardware. Oh, my! They give this little farmhouse bedside table some sparkle and make a nice contrast to the chippy paint look. The interior was painted in Annie Sloan French Linen and the sweet little drawer was lined in clean paper. The whole piece was sanded and waxed in Annie Sloan clear wax for the hand rubbed finish that I love.

Hi Kathy, I use Elmers stainable wood filler. It comes in a plastic container from Home Depot. I use it for both the veneer and the drawers. Thanks!
Love it! I recently switched to Bondo to fill my holes and it’s the difference between night and day! The old holes become invisible!
Hi Kelly, I tried Bondo but I found it to be super smelly. Maybe there is a different version? I am always up for new products to try 🙂
What a difference some Aubusson chalk paint and a pretty glass knob made to this beautiful night table, Suzanne. Love the surprise inside, is it Arles or Old Ochre? Pinned to share 🙂
The table looks fantastic in that color and the glass knobs really add to its’ look. I am curious if you sanded the original finish a bit – I have a very old nightstand with pretty much the same color and finish which I am going to paint in Annie S robins egg blue and worried about paint adhesion.
Hi Liz, I applied only one coat and used 400 grit sandpaper to really smooth out the paint before waxing. I distressed using a wet rag before sanding btw. Thanks!

I am working on an old bed side table myself. I am using Amy Howard ‘s product. I have an other project in the wings and for that one I am going to try Fusion a mineral based “chalk” paint. Diane
I have yet to try her products but have heard great reviews! Have fun! I am now selling Fusion mineral paint on my site. It is great 🙂
