The majority of us tend to start spending more time at home during the winter months. We want to be cosy and warm indoors, avoiding rain, sleet, snow and icy conditions. We also tend to enjoy activities that are based at home, such as decorating for the holidays, watching films, baking and more. So, what can you do to make your home as enjoyable as possible to spend time in during this period? The answer is to do your utmost to make it as cozy and comfortable as you can! The good news is that you can achieve this with just a few simple steps. Here are some to take into consideration.
Keeping Things Warm
The temperature does tend to drop at this time of year, but there are plenty of things you can do to keep your home toasty and warm throughout each day. If you spend time outside of the house, it’s a good idea to set your thermostat on a timer, ensuring that your heating turns off just after you leave and turns on in time to heat your home before you return. Nowadays, there are even apps that you can use to control your heating when you’re not in the home! Now is a good time to check your boiler too. A boiler break during the winter can result in freezing living conditions until it’s repaired, so it’s best to have your boiler checked and – if there’s a problem – to deal with any boiler parts and rental before problems really arise. Finally, make sure to ensure your windows are keeping heat in. If you don’t have double glazed windows, now is the time to sort this out!
Declutter and Deep Clean
Nobody likes spending time in a messy and cluttered space. So, make sure to have a good declutter and deep clean of your home, ideally before you start decorating for the holidays. This will give you a blank canvas to work with and will also ensure that your home feels comfortable at all times. Start by going through all of your belongings and determining what you do use and what has sentimental value. Keep these items and make sure you have storage options for them. Next, separate out what you no longer want. Sell items of value. Donate items that won’t sell. Recycle items that are worn, broken or generally useless. Now, you’ll have a tidy and clear house. The next step to take is deep cleaning. Sure, we all conduct routine tasks and chores to keep on top of our homes and to ensure they’re hygienic. But a deep clean can leave the space glittering and truly enjoyable to be in. You can find an in depth cleaning guide here.
These steps may seem simple and straightforward. But the sooner you engage with them, the sooner your home will become the comfy cozy haven you want it to be! Hopefully, some of the tips and tricks above will help you to achieve this!
