After a long winter, it makes sense to take stock and take care of your home preparing it for the freshness of the summer season. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you ensure your home is spring-ready…
Check the Gutters and Spouts
Winter can be harsh. Heavy rain and winds can have a terrible effect on your property, particularly the gutters and downspouts. So, before spring gets here, you’ll probably want to get up there and clean any debris – usually lots of falling leaves – from the gutters, and check for any loose spouts or cracks in the pipework. If being up a ladder isn’t your thing, hire a handyman to do it for you – it should be a pretty quick job anyway.
Clean Up the Yard
The winter months can be pretty hard on the yard too, causing chaos and disarray in their wake. So, if you want to be able to enjoy your outdoor space when spring is in full bloom, it’s time to get out your rake and start clearing those leaves. Instead of tossing them in the trash, use them as mulch to feed your tired lawn.
Next, you’re going to want to check the condition of your lawn. If it has become wet and muddy, you’ll need to first get rid of any standing water, then you can lay turf or seed the lawn depending on how quickly you want to remedy the situation.
Once that’s sorted, you can inspect your shrubs and bushes for signs of damage and tidy them up as you see fit. It’s also a good time to sow any seeds that will thrive best at this time of year.
Have your HVAC Serviced
Depending on where you live, you may have been using your heating system a lot over the winter, which may have put a lot of strain on it. That’s why it makes sense to have it checked out, and where necessary repaired, by a professional company like Absolute Refrigeration, Heating, & Air Conditioning, so that when you need to turn up the air conditioning this spring, you won’t have any trouble using it. This is something that you should do as a matter of course, even if you don’t notice any problems, just to keep things ticking over nicely.
Switch Out the Furnishings
Changing your home decor with the seasons is a nice way to mark the passing of time and get the most enjoyment from your home. The easiest way to do this is by swapping thicker blankets for lighter ones, swapping dark warming colors for cool bright ones and adding in a few seasonal plants. Do this now and you’ll be able to ease your way into spring.
Clean and Air Your Home
Spring cleaning is so popular because it helps us to ring the changes and embrace the fresh new start that spring symbolizes. Get started by opening all of the windows to let lots of fresh air in. Then, systematically clean from room to room getting rid of any clutter as you go, for a spring home you’ll truly love.
