We may still be the middle of winter, but spring is only around the corner. It’s a great time to start thinking about how you’re going to prepare your home for the warmer weather. As the evenings get longer, we seem to become more sociable and use our homes for entertaining more, so getting ahead of the game and prepping in advance is the key to success. You may be looking forward to a seasonal fresh start, or perhaps even thinking of selling your home and moving – either way, a spring refresh is a great idea. So what do you need to think about when planning a revamp?
Refresh Your Windows
Windows let in light and provide the connection with outdoors, so they’re vital to the enjoyment you have of your home and also it’s saleability. Windows often suffer during the winter months, getting dirty thanks to the harsher weather. The first step to many good spring clean is to wash the inside and outside of all the glass in your home. You’ll be surprised how much more light and airy the place will feel. Assess the condition of your windows too – if they’re very old it could be time to consider new glazing that is up to the latest energy efficiency standards to make your home greener. Consider also the window treatments that you have. Could it be time to upgrade those tired curtains with beautiful wooden plantation shutters? There are also some great options with retractable modern awnings available from companies like Eclipse Shading Systems, so think over your windows and patio doors with fresh eyes.
Get Outdoorsy Inside
With the windows sorted out, you’ve improved the connection between outdoors and in, so why not go one step further by looking at the plant life in your home as well? Beautiful houseplants not only look great, they also act as natural air filters, purifying and improving the air quality in your home, which is so much better for your health. Even if you aren’t great at remembering to care for houseplants, there are plenty of low maintenance options like succulents, cacti or spider plants that are really hardy and easy to take care of. If you’re a little more green-fingered, you can go for something more spectacular – such as creating a living wall in your home.
Get Your Garden In Shape
Your garden can make a big impression on potential buyers if you are looking to sell, or it can really enhance home living in the spring and summer if you’re planning to stay put and enjoy it yourself. Rake away the leaves and debris from the lawn, repair any winter damage and prune back any trees and shrubs ready for the warmer weather. Make repairs to slabs or or power wash decking and stone areas. You may also choose to aerate your lawn and use a soil conditioning product to prep the land for new planting. Think about the new plants you want to add in ready for the spring growing season.
