Not many homes are entirely devoid of art. Whether or not you have a particular way with art, you are probably going to want a few pieces in your home. They are a great way to adorn a wall or decorate a room, and they can even reveal personality and much else besides. Of course, if you are thinking about this logically, then you will want to make sure that you are going to get it right, and choose art that is really going to work. In this post, we’ll take a look at what that means, and what you might need to consider to ensure that you are choosing great art and displaying it well.
Theme
If you have some kind of theme in your home, then you will need to make sure that you are choosing pieces of art which are going to fall in line with that. Failing to do this will only mean that the art itself either looks out of place, or ruins the general theme of the home or the room, and in either case you will probably feel that this is not what you are going for. If you have no particular theme, you might want to think about using art to create one, which can actually be a surprisingly effective way to make that happen.
Color
The color or major colors of a piece are always going to have an effect on how the piece works in a space too. This is something to consider before you try to fill any room with art. If the colors are off, then it is unlikely to be successful. Bear in mind that this doesn’t mean you have to go for matching colors – in fact, that would often be a terrible idea. But you do need to make sure that they compliment each other, and that is something that should always be perfectly possible to achieve.
Framing
A piece of art without a good frame is a sad thing indeed, and unlikely to be something that you are glad to have in your home. You need to make sure that your art framing is up to par, or find someone to do it for you, so that you can present whatever art you have chosen as well as possible. It really does make a huge difference, so it’s something to consider. A good frame can have a way of completing a work of art, and allowing it to sit better in any space.
Quantity
Finally, you need to think about the quantity of the art pieces you have up. If you end up with too many, the space will feel crowded – that will be true even for an art-loving home. If you have too little, however, then you will probably find that you are going to have no kind of effect at all. Get the balance right, and you should find that it all works out as well as you would hope.
