I just finished this dresser and mirror for a little girl’s room. The color they chose was Annie Sloan Napoleonic Blue. I was happy to give this set a pop of color! To see this shade of blue plus other Annie Sloan colors, please click HERE.
The issue I had was that the set had been painted in the past. The original paint was that super slick, oil based paint. I needed to first sand over the pieces with 150 grit sandpaper to give the chalk paint a little more grip. I used a mask and did it in my open garage because old paint always makes me nervous. You never know if it is lead based and even not, that oil based paint is likely pretty toxic.
After sanding down the pieces, I started with the paint. Even after sanding, it took five (yes, 5 ) coats to cover. I finally finished with the multiple coats of paint and sealed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. This gave it a lovely, hand buffed finish. I really love the new ceramic drawer pulls that were chosen. They are from the Word Market and very pretty against that bright blue.
