Long Day and Lessons Learned!

Can’t believe the Lucketts Spring Market is this weekend!  market_coverI originally had reserved the 10′ rental truck but after seeing it, decided it was too small.  So, we upped it to the larger truck and brought it home last night.  My husband and neighbor’s son loaded it up and it was completely full.  We made the right decision of truck size!  DSCN9214This morning we struck out for Lucketts and when we arrived, it was raining.  My husband took one look at the little space marked out for me and the giant truck and thought I was nuts to have brought so many items!  Well, we piled it all on the tarp, put the tent up, secured it with rope and hopefully it will hold overnight!  The grounds are already starting to look amazing with all of the dealers setting up their beautiful spaces.

I’m off again in the morning to hopefully sort my tarp mountain all out.  I am also bringing out the many smalls that have accumulated in our foyer, like this beautiful vintage chandelier and burlap pillows.  DSCN9217DSCN9220DSCN9218DSCN9223This is such a learning curve.  I realize that I should have just unloaded it all tomorrow and kept the truck out there in the parking lot until Sunday and paid the few days rent on it.  Now, I am super nervous that if the big pieces don’t sell, we will have to rent a truck again and go pick it all up.

So, lesson one learned!  I’m sure there are many, many more to come.  Like, oh, my tent doesn’t have walls to prop things up against – duh!

Countdown Begins

Only a few days left until the Lucketts Spring Market and I am tired!  I spent today whitewashing a french cabinet …DSCN9206DSCN9201DSCN9211DSCN9199DSCN9202and painting many, many smaller pieces.  This is a family affair and my parents were put to work tagging items and my girls helped out too.  DSCN9195As I sit here, I am exhausted and covered in paint, wax and dust.  We get the truck tomorrow afternoon to start to pack up and will take off first thing Thursday morning to drop it all off.  I really hope this goes well!

Almost Done

Yesterday was my birthday and I spent it doing my favorite thing – thrifting with my mother.  We found this chest in very poor shape but knew with a little love and a lot of wood filler and sandpaper, it had tons of potential.  So, into the back of the Prius (mother’s car) it went.  When I say it was a tight fit, I am NOT exaggerating.  Getting it out was more difficult and my husband was less than impressed - he actually said they should have paid me to haul it away!  No vision!  DSCN9150I have spent the day working on it and thought you might enjoy the before pics.  The door was broken but I believe that I have managed to fix it.  DSCN9161I hope to finish it tomorrow and bring it to Lucketts.  It has a great thick slab of wood on top and I’m thinking of sanding it down and leaving it natural.  Continue reading

Charming Outdoor Spaces

It is Monday morning and pouring rain.  I am stuck indoors with a sore back from lifting a way too heavy dresser yesterday (the perils of my profession, yikes!).  I thought to cheer myself up, I’d post a few favorite pics of outdoor spaces.  English gardens, front porches, a nook behind a rose bush and even a vintage wedding setup.  All beautiful and full of charm!
