Constantly feeling cramped and crowded at home? It can be frustrating, especially as your family grows and you add kids, pets and visitors to the mix. Thankfully there are some ways to make more room without you needing to give up your home and move elsewhere. Here are some ideas!
Extend outwards
The most obvious solution when you need more space in your home is to extend outwards. Either a single or double story extension will give you more floor space, and allow you to extend your kitchen or living space downstairs plus an extra bedroom and bathroom upstairs if you go with the double story.
Convert the attic
Another great way to make more space in your home is to make use of your attic. Most of us fill our lofts with junk, when really these can be transformed into a usable space such as a bedroom, guest room or hobby room. In some homes the loft can be enormous so it’s well worth making the most of it.
Transform the basement
Are you lucky enough to have a basement in your home? Why not turn it into a hangout, games room or media room? It can be tricky renovating the basement, you might need to prep by having water restoration companies come out and fix any water damage, plus it will need properly insulating and ventilating to become a livable space. But it can be a fantastic way to gain more space at home.
Clear out the spare room
Do you have a spare room that’s full of junk? Get rid of it and turn the spare room into a space you will use. It could be a playroom, a home office, even a walk in wardrobe. Anything is better than it just being wasted space.
Create an extra bathroom
Constantly arguing over the bathroom in the mornings with your family? Adding another one could help to resolve your issues. This could be a simple cloakroom WC downstairs (under the stairs is a good spot to put one) or you could add an ensuite bathroom to a corner of your bedroom. A slim shower, toilet and sink wouldn’t take up much space.
Declutter
Finally, regardless of how big or small your home is, when it’s full of clutter it’s always going to be a struggle. Spend some time every three months (the start of each season is a good time to do this) going through things you no longer need. Throw away, sell or donate items that aren’t useful to you, and find good storage solutions for whatever is left. You’ll find your home feels much more spacious.
