What a title! A Passion Fruit family room – you just have to love the name of this paint color!
My family room has really been a work in progress since we purchased our home 8 years ago. We replaced the floors and I whitewashed the brick and that really brightened and opened it up. I originally painted the room in a subtle, light yellowy/cream but it wasn’t doing it for me any longer. The room has one wall that is entirely fireplace, one wall that has a large window and french doors, and one wall that opens into the kitchen. It really only leaves one large wall of pure color. This makes it the perfect room to add a true pop of color that won’t overwhelm the space as it is so broken up.
I decided on Benjamin Moore Passion Fruit. I have my own BM paint fan and always take it with me to Home Depot and have them mix the BM color in their Behr Paint and Primer in One. It’s less expensive and great quality. Honestly, when I opened the can I was quite apprehensive! I know that the color dries darker than the paint in the can and continued. So happy with the result!I’m happy with how it ties in with the blue/grey in our kitchen. The deeper color actually complements the cooler kitchen color.
I want to paint the paneling over the mantel in a brighter white that will tie in better with the Passion Fruit. I’ve been contemplating purchasing a sectional sofa but after listening to your comments and careful consideration, I am now leaning against it. I think two matching, comfy chairs will work better in the space. They should make the finishing touch!
What a beautiful, happy color. It looks lovely!
Thank you!
That looks beautiful! I love it. You did good, I like the way it just ties in with the rest of your colors…it’s perfect.
Thank you, Sally!
suzanne that color is the cats’ pajamas wow i love it, i am glad you took the plunge it is awesomely gorgeous xx
Thanks so much, Chris!
looks awesome and we once bought a sectional sofa that we loved without measuring our room – oops.
We lived with it for 20 years
Oh, no! My nightmare! It can happen so easily. Especially with the larger furniture that looks like it will fit and then is so much larger in a room than the showroom
Such a happy room!!
Why, thank you Liz!!
Love this color!! I think I might use it on a wall in my bedroom!! Happy room!
Thanks, Rebecca! It is an awesome color that deepens well in the shadows too. Cheers!
Wow, it’s beautiful! Totally brightens up the room. I love it! Now if only I could figure out what colors to paint the walls in my house!
Isn’t it funny how paint color can be so tricky? I also have a terrible habit of painting a whole room before I decide if I like it or not. Seriously, I have a problem lol! Good luck with your color scheme!
Looks great; fabulous job! I agree that it works well with your kitchen and also agree that the fireplace would be nice either given a ‘darker’ white-wash or painted white. Some people do regret painting brick but it can always be sandblasted (hugely messy!!!).
Thanks Sharon! Yes, I love the brick but that wall now needs brightening up. On to my next task lol!
I just can’t stop smiling. The color is happy, fun and a delight. Just finished doing a mural on my walls or I WOULD RUN, NOT WALK, TO HAVE IT FOR MY VERY OWN ! Took courage and it paid of in compliments and joy Great job !
You made me smile that the color made YOU smile! Awesome! Thanks!
Suzanne when I saw the name of the BM Paint Color you chose I have to admit I took a gulp. Then when I saw your pictures I was pleasantly surprised. Wow, it looks fabulous with your furniture, artwork and drapery panels! I think you’re wise in your decision to brighten the white on your fireplace mantle.
I’m with you on taking the BM chips to Home Depot to get the color in Behr. It’s the closest you can get to BM quality at a lower price point. Won’t use anything else in my house inside and out.
Enjoy your new fabulously bright family room!
Thanks so much, Marie! Yes, I have been using Behr paint for years. It is great quality and the BM is just so expensive. Now that they color match, it is a no brainer. So glad you like the color! You know that feeling when you open the can and think, uh oh! Glad I did it because the dried color is so much better. Next up is the mantel wall…
It looks amazingly wonderful,i was a doubter but,you girl know what you are doing. It goes with all your art, furniture, drapes and really looks great with the kitchen.
Thank you, Marlene!
A fabulous color that makes artwork pop! So glad you decided against a sectional (decorator’s bane). I agree on white for mantel and wall above it or even this wonderful Passion Fruit with a white mantle. Love how you whitewashed the fireplace. Just the right touch!
Thanks Christine! Yes, the mantel wall is my next job – never ends, does it?! Cheers!
What a great pop of color it adds to the room. It truly works!

Thanks Mary! I was very apprehensive but am so pleased I took the plunge into a bright color!
Suzanne, this is actually my favorite thing you’ve done in your house. This color warms up that room so much. It makes your beautiful painted pieces pop. What a happy place!
Thanks so much, Carol! I am so happy you love it! I am really pleased. Amazing what paint can do!
We got a small sectional (for free!) that I made a ruffle slipcover for & I’m so glad we have it. We’re a family of 4 and it’s so nice how we can all sit on it together while watching a movie. It’s our favorite room to be in, and I don’t think we’d be in it so much if we didn’t have the sectional. When my kids friends are over they can all sit together comfortably, it encourages everyone to all be together and it’s so comfy.
You really can’t beat free! Well done
I agree, it must be comfy and we are a family of five (two large teens included) which is why I initially thought of buying a sectional. I just am afraid to crowd the room and another reader brought up a very good point which is I like to move my furniture around about once a day lol! I think a few comfy chairs will do the trick and saw them at Crate and Barrel. Too much money for me but I at least have the inspiration!
I wouldn’t have thought that colour would look right even on just one main wall but it’s fab. Everything looks so pulled together – love it!
Suzanne, this color is so pretty! It really brightens the entire space up. I can’t wait to see how the rest of your plans for the space fall into place. Have an awesome day, Coco
