What wax or glaze did you use over the blue?
Beautiful. Did you use a glaze over it?”
Hi Jill. No, I distressed it back to achieve the look. Thanks!
Where do you get your knobs? Love them!
This is so beautiful!!
Thanks so much!
What coastal blue and brand of paint did you use?
Hi, it is General Finishes Coastal Blue milk paint and I sell it on my site in the Shop or you can find it online elsewhere. Thanks!
Beautiful! A question, I have a deep mahogany coloured desk, if I wanted to use the GF milk paint in coastal blue, what do I need to do to the finish, besides sanding? Would I need to totally strip the finish? I am older and unable to do much physical sanding. Love your work, and this new addition to your web site is wonderful! Thank you in advance!
Hi Liz, You don’t even need to sand it first. Just clean it with TSP cleaner. If you have any gauges or dings in the desk, then apply wood filler and sand those out. The paint can be applied directly onto the piece without priming it first. It’s an amazing product. You will have fun with it!
I swoon over this every time it pops up in my searches! Beautiful. Did you use straight Coastal Blue paint – or did you mix in another color?
Hi Amy, I used straight Coastal Blie and sanded it with 220 grit which gave it a denim look. Thanks!!!
Does this have a base coat? If so, what is the color? Thanks!
Hi, No, it did not have a base coat.
Beautiful piece, how did you seal it? Polyurethane or wax?
Hi thanks! General Finishes Flat Out Flat topcoat.
Hi there – love this piece and may purchase the paint off your site if easiest. Do you also sell the gold knobs? They look so great with the blue. Thanks!
Hi Jennifer,
I actually don’t have the knobs. They were original to the piece. You can find great hardware online at D.Lawless Hardware. Their prices and very reasonable and they ship quickly. Cheers!
Your pieces are so beautiful! I used GF milk pain on a dresser and the drawers won’t shut ! I sanded away any pain on the sides and bottom of the drawers but it’s like the wood swelled. The marble inlayed top won’t fit either. I’m afraid to use the flat out flat top coat. Will it make it worse? Any suggestions?
Hi Elizabeth, I have never had that issue before. I am wondering if the topcoat may actually help it to not swell any more. I am sorry but I would suggest that you contact General Finishes directly. They can help you out and are very responsive.
Hi Suzanne,
Lovely piece! Can you tell me how you achieved the varying shades of blue? Was this blue to start with? I am just getting started, and already plan to use GF, however I have someone’s leftovers to play with from another line. Just building up my supplies before I get started. Sandpaper, brushes, waxes etc. Almost ready to take the plunge, but so many colors to choose from. I think this color is amazing!
Hi Lori, I actually used a soft sanding sponge on the paint after it dried. It left this variation in color. You can find my latest work on my new site, http://www.suzannebagheri.com. Thanks so much and best of luck with you projects!
