HOME REPAIRS YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT OFF
If you were to make a list of all the little jobs around your house that you know you should do but haven’t got around to yet, that list would probably be a long one. Don’t worry, though; almost everyone will be the same. Small jobs that aren’t too disruptive can easily be forgotten or drop to the bottom of the to-do list when there are other, more important tasks to complete.
For the most part, this is fine. At some point, those jobs will be done, and although we might wonder why we didn’t do them sooner, no harm will have been done. However, some home repairs need to be fixed as soon as you become aware of them because otherwise they can cause a lot of damage and cost a lot more money than they would have done if you’d fixed them right away. Here are some of the most important to watch out for.
All kinds of different issues can cause mold, and some are more problematic than others. The more difficult ones to deal with will require extensive investigation and a professional’s help, which is what will happen if the reason for your home to be moldy is something like a hole in your roof that is causing the insulation in your attic to become damp, producing mold. Hiring Roof Doctors to fix the hole and then installing new insulation should help. For additional tips and tricks, this roofing blog is a great resource.
If the problem is less serious, you can also deal with mold by yourself. If the mold is caused by poor ventilation, for example, you can start to leave your window open slightly, or install an extractor fan. Then you need to wipe away the mold, paint the area with mold-resistant paint, and the problem should be fixed.
Surely having clogged gutters in the winter and fall times of the year is just what happens? It’s not something to worry about, is it? Well actually, it is something to worry about, and it’s something that needs to be dealt with sooner rather than later. If the gutters aren’t cleared and remain full of leaves and debris, the rainwater that comes at this time of year won’t be carried away, but will instead spill over the top of the guttering. This can cause damage to the walls of your home, even leading to mold, as mentioned above.
If it doesn’t spill out, the water can sit on top of the leaves and freeze, which would lead to cracked guttering which then needs to be replaced. Pipes can burst, and the damage caused can be extensive, expensive, and upsetting.
To clear your gutters, use a high powered hose to blast the blockage away. Just make sure you stand safely on the ladder and don’t work alone when you carry out this job.
There is nothing worse than pests. Whether rodents or insects, this is why home maintenance is so important. If you suspect your place has problems, you can first try to remedy yourself with hardware store traps and sprays. However, if the problem persists, you may need to hire a professional exterminator. Don’t be embarrassed it happens to the cleanest of homes. Once rectified, it is wise to have a pest professional do monthly or quarterly maintenance to keep the critters away.
We all use several appliances every day. From washing machines to microwaves, we rely on these machines to make our lives more comfortable, and when they go wrong, it can be hugely inconvenient.
If you notice that one of these machines isn’t working as well as it used to, or it’s making a strange noise, or anything else seems off about it, have it looked at. If you wait until it breaks down entirely, you might have to pay a lot more for a new one, and you’ll be without a useful tool for at least a few days too.
