My favorite find from last week has been transformed with paint, wax and a lot of elbow grease! Here is the before:Here is the after:
It is a gorgeous piece that I painted in a custom mix of chalk paint to create a french blue (Annie Sloan Provence/Louis Blue/Old White). I added gold highlights (Martha Steward Metallic Antique Gold) and then sanded the piece down for a super smooth finish. After Annie Sloan clear and dark wax were applied it created a gorgeous hue that actually changes in the light from a light to green blue.
The interior is clean as a whistle and lined in cedar. It emits the most gorgeous cedar scent!
Perfect for any bedroom or hallway in the house!

So Pretty! Love the color and the gold!
I LOVE this piece!
Love the hints of gold!
It’s beautiful! I love that you mixed colors…really makes it a one of a kind piece! And the gold highlights….oh yes!
I have the exact same piece but in maple. How were you able to get the paint to adhere to the top when it is so slick? Mine is has a high gloss finish almost like metal. It seems as if the paint will just scrape back off unless I take a sander to it to take the gloss off.
Hi Victoria, the top of this one was slick too. That is the beauty of chalk paint – it adheres very well to most any surface. I painted a laminate top once and it stuck. You can always go over the surface quickly first with a 150 grit sandpaper (I like to do this). I do it to sand the edges smooth and it allows the paint to really grip. I don’t use a sander for this – just a little sander block and some elbow grease. It will definitely adhere well and once it is waxed there should be no problem at all with it scraping off. Good luck on your piece! How great you have one like it – I happen to love these chests.
Pinned! This is gorgeous!! Thanks for sharing on DIY Sunday Showcase!!
